Grady

Grady filled our home with joy that only an Irish Setter can bring—bright-eyed, mahogany red-coated, endlessly enthusiastic, and impossibly gentle.

At 8 weeks old when we first brought Grady home, life felt a little lighter. There was a spark in the way he bounded toward every new day, as if each sunrise was a personal invitation to play, explore, and love without hesitation. Irish Setters have a reputation for heart, but ours showed us what that really meant.

We’ll remember how he greeted us, his tail never stopped moving, the way he leaned in for affection as if he were trying to hug with his whole body, and the way he could turn every outing into an adventure.

Grady was a spring puppy and by 12 weeks we had him on a surf board at the beach.  He came to love the beach, chasing red knots along the shoreline and bounding out into the surf.  He was full of life and knew how to have fun.  At Alum Creek he would swim out and retrieve sticks and let us know he did not want to go home.   He would catch snow balls mid air, spin circles for arriving mail trucks and welcome friends and family when they arrived.

Grady was a great companion on long car rides well-traveled as he was always a welcome guest.  The soft weight of his head resting against a knee, the warmth of his presence beside you, the unspoken comfort simply by being nearby. His gentle and joyful manner.  He was a loved member of the family.

Though our hearts feel heavier now, we carry forward the love he shared with us. His adventurous spirit and his loyalty and grit as the days got old.  We treasure the memories of our beautiful Grady.

Run free, sweet friend.
You were a once-in-a-lifetime dog, and we will miss you always.
