Malley

Today we honor and remember Malley, a beloved companion whose love, loyalty, and unique personality left an unforgettable mark on the hearts of her family. For 10 wonderful years, she brought comfort, joy, and companionship to those who loved her most. Though saying goodbye was incredibly difficult, her memory continues to live on through the countless moments she shared with her family.

In Loving Memory of Malley

Malley’s Legacy of Loyalty, Love, and Patience

Malley always seemed to understand our thoughts before we even spoke them. With that classic, sharp Aussie-Border Collie intelligence, those bright eyes watched every move, always keeping tabs on her peeps. She was a stunning dog, carrying a natural beauty that remained vibrant and virtually unchanged throughout her entire life. Her coat kept its rich, striking color and softness, a beautiful testament to the ageless spirit she carried from her youth all the way through her senior years.

Her deep loyalty was even more remarkable because of how her life began. Before she was even nine months old, Malley’s world had been upended three times. Passing through three different homes in such a short window, she knew what it felt like to be misunderstood and uprooted. But we became her fourth and final home—the place where the shifting stopped, and her true life finally began.

Once Malley realized she was safe, that rough start transformed into an unbreakable bond. She was fiercely protective, taking her job as our guardian and companion seriously. She tracked our movements around the house, ensuring her family was always safe and together. To Malley, loyalty wasn’t just a trait; it was her life’s purpose. She was also completely, beautifully full of energy.

With Malley around, there was never a dull moment. She brought a joyful, vibrant spark to our everyday lives and absolute enthusiasm to every new adventure. She joined us on every single vacation we took, cementing her place as the ultimate road trip partner. She especially loved her trips to Michigan, exploring new sights and scents with that oh-so smart, working-dog curiosity. Her beauty wasn’t just in her coat or her expressive eyes, but in the steady, adventurous, and protective presence she brought to every single day.

In 2017, we decided to expand our pack and test the waters by fostering another dog, holding our breath to see if Malley would approve. True to her wonderful nature, she was absolutely amazing with him. That foster became a permanent family member, a “little spunky guy” named Albert. Malley immediately extended her fierce protective radar to include her new little brother. For the next eight years, she showed the true depth of her character.

Even though Albert consistently “got on her nerves,” Malley was incredibly patient, guiding him and tolerating him with the grace of a true big sister. Albert was always trying to show off for Malley, strutting around and pretending he was the absolute boss of the house, like he was going to be the brave hero to save us if danger ever struck—though in reality, all he truly wanted to do was stalk squirrels. Malley would just watch his antics with her calm, wise patience, letting him think he was running the show while everyone knew she was the true anchor of the pack.

Malley would have turned 13 on October 31, 2026—a fittingly spirited date for a dog with so much personality. When a sudden and deeply unexpected diagnosis completely turned our world around, we had less than a week to process the unimaginable. We knew we had to return her lifetime of devotion with one final, comfort and contacted an in-home end-of-life company so Malley wouldn’t have to face any scary clinic doors or unfamiliar spaces. Instead, surrounded by the family she spent her life protecting, she was able to say goodbye in her own home, in the very place where she was sooooooo very loved and safe.

Almost every single day of her life, a special ritual passed between us: I would gently pull her ear up and whisper how much I loved her. On her final day, that routine became a true lifeline. I must have told her a thousand times or more (paired with just as many soft kisses pressed into her cheeks), making sure that love was the absolute last thing she felt.

This tremendous loss of our energetic, incredibly stoic and so full of life Angel was the hardest thing we’ve ever done. Albert is certainly sad without his big sister now, though true to his tough-guy act, he hides his sadness well. Yet, looking back at the life we shared—from her chaotic first nine months to her eight beautiful years guiding Albert—her spirit remains a constant comfort. Malley left an indelible mark on our hearts, a beautiful reminder of what it means to be truly, unconditionally loved.

Thank you Malley-girl for providing us with so many fun times and adventures. And for teaching us so very many valuable lessons in life…..

We LOVE and miss you beyond words (we know you already know this). We also know you are still here and watching over us, and are 100% certain we will see you again.
