Piper

Goodbye to Piper,

Our little abandoned kitten from Chicago. She had a well-known fear of vets, including an epic jailbreak from her carrier during a COVID year drop-off. Staring down traffic on a busy boulevard but turning back to be captured by the army of vet techs that came pouring out of the office doors to help. You survived a broken pelvis from a second escape attempt during the same checkup— how stubborn and strong you were!— surgery and rehabilitation while wearing ‘the cone of shame.’ And yet, at 17 years, in the final chapter of this rags-to-riches story, she took her last breath at home on the couch, just minutes before the Kona’s Loving Paws arrived for a house call. Piper, we hope you are snuggling, feeling confident and at ease in heaven. When our son asked about how the vet’s office knew to send a sympathy card we said that is because all vets and cats knew of your legend, and will tell stories about Piper for years to come When you left the world, all cats had a moment of silence.

Thank you for letting us take care of you.
